This exhibition showcases new works from the Midlands based photography group Ignite. Following the success of their last major exhibition ‘Hunted’ at St Pauls Gallery (June 2006 in association with Rhubarb Rhubarb), Ignite photographers have produced a series of striking and thought provoking works in response to the theme ‘Transitions’, as part of New Art Birmingham. Inspired by the concept of transistion in a range of environments and cultures, the group have focused their attention on how these transforming changes both in our landscape and culture can be translated through photographic medium.

The photographers have variously pursued conceptual and documentary strategies in an attempt to reveal the interface between one thing into another; truth into fiction, old into new, nature into construction and so forth. The works range from Zara Parekh’s hauntingly beautiful images of time and decay through documentations of a derelict building to Dan Burwood’s light drawings that highlight the process of image construction. This inspirational exhibition explores the notion of transition from the various viewpoints of a dynamic group of photographers and offers the audience a conceptually driven feast of imagery.

Ignite is a newly formed group of 14 photographers who aim to showcase their work to new audiences and start a new network for creative practioners to link into. The Photofair is twinned with Rhubarb Rhubarb and is between July 26th and July 31st.
Do you need injections of ideas and caffeine? RSVP to Cafe Ignite and we will deliver a function that leaves you buzzing on many levels. We aim to bring you a night of networking that will foster new creative collaborations with other practitioners in the West Midlands. Ideas are the currency of the creative community, by attending the event and participating in an exchange of ideas for collaborations we hope to spark new projects and partnerships.
